So, this month has just been a little insane. There is a lot going on around here, and I’m honestly just trying to stay afloat (more to come on that later)! This year I made a commitment to read one book a month, i.e. complete 12 books this year. I used to be an avid reader, reading almost a book a week, until I had children. Now, I read about 5 books a night, but they are all picture books 🙂
So, I made a commitment to myself back in January, that I needed to do something for myself, and that was read because there is nothing (and I really mean this), NOTHING that I love more than getting lost in a book. Want to see what I’ve read? You can follow me on Goodreads.
Well, over the weekend we took a family trip to Target, and I saw the new Chip Gaines book – Capital Gaines on sale, so I had to buy it, as I am a complete sucker for Fixer Upper, and anything Chip and Joanna! Why? Because they actually remind me a lot of Nic and I. When we watch them, I often see us in them. We work together (almost always have), we are with each other almost every moment of the day (literally not just waking, also sleeping! And, we magically, never seem to get sick of each other! How we do it? I do not know, but we do.
Anyway, yesterday I wasn’t feeling great, so when I picked the kids up from school I decided to curl on the couch as they played Legos & Paw Patrol around me and start reading what Chip had to say. I took a break to help cook dinner, eat dinner and do bedtime, and then I went right back to reading that book until 11:45 pm. I finished it in just 1 day!
And, it was just what I needed. I needed the little confidence boost Chip gave me. I needed to be reminded (again and again) not to let fear in my life, and follow the path that I know is right. That’s why I’ve done what I’ve done in life – I never expected I would be a network marketer, but what I learned about the personal care industry, and saw what was happening, I knew I needed to be a voice for change, and so I became an advocate for safer personal care products. It became my passion project to talk to everyone I knew, and loved, and cared about, about what was in their products. There are so many things wrong with the way things are, BUT there are so many people who are passionate and want to change it. What are you passionate about? Do you want to change the personal care industry like me? Then join me. Maybe you haven’t been affected by autoimmune diseases or cancer (lucky!) and aren’t as passionate as me about turning that industry around. Maybe there is something else that drives you – what is it? Tap into it. NOW. Do something – start a passion project, make the world a better place. It’s up to you, we can’t just sit around anymore waiting for the world to change. We have to be the change.
Two weeks ago 60 minutes featured the following segment about opioids in the US, and it shows you how screwed up our government really is. This past Sunday, when watching 60 minutes, they updated this segment – just by airing it, it pushed people into action, and changes were already starting in Washington. After you watch it, you’ll understand why that is so amazing and SO important.
There are a lot of things I’m passionate about – Beautycounter is just one of them. I have a lot more up my sleeve – I just have to get the guts to do them. What about you? Are you ready to take a jump?
